Dr. Tom McMorran

Tom McMorran is a postulant for ordination the to priesthood in the Episcopal Church in Connecticut. He is now in his third year of seminary at Yale Divinity School/Berkeley Divinity School. Tom hopes to be ordained to the diaconate in June of 2027 and to the presbyterate in January of 2028.  His home church is Trinity Episcopal Church, Newtown.

Before responding to a call to ordained ministry, Tom’s first career was as a school teacher. He served as superintendent for the Easton, Redding and Region 9 Schools from 2015-2020.  Before that Tom was the Head of School at Joel Barlow High School in Redding for eight years.  Prior to becoming an administrator, Tom taught middle-school and high-school English for more than 20 years. In 2012, Tom was the Connecticut High School Principal of the Year. 

Tom graduated from Boston College in 1985 with a BA in English/Education, earned an MA from Fordham in 1993 in philosophy and another MA in educational leadership from Southern Connecticut in 1999.  He holds a doctorate from Seton Hall in ed. leadership, and a graduate certificate in interreligious studies from Hartford International University for Religion and Peace.  

Tom and his wife, Colleen, moved to Woodbury in 2024 after three decades in Newtown, and they quickly felt right at home.  You may have crossed paths with Colleen who is a librarian at Woodbury Library.  Colleen retired from Naugatuck High School where she was the librarian for twelve years.  Tom and Colleen have two daughters, ages 30 and 33, and a brand new grandson. He would like to claim he is not a total book nerd, but that wouldn't be quite true. 

Before he began his internship at St. Paul’s he spent ten weeks as a chaplain intern at Danbury Hospital, which he says, "was a profound experience of God's grace showing up in a patient's life when God's loving presence was needed."  He wants the St. Paul's community to know how grateful he is that Rev. Rupp will be mentoring him, and that he loves being part the life of this parish.
