Popular Saints Festival Dinner Fundraiser

Join Rev. Tony, Rev. Tuesday and other revelers for a Festa Santos Populares! This is the most authentic Portuguese block party you can experience this side of Lisbon or Porto.  Modeled on the massive annual civic holiday celebrations of the St. Anthony Festival in Lisbon on the night of June 12 and the St. John Festival in Porto on the night of June 23, with all the associated foods, drinks, music, and revelry.

Amid colored streamers and lights we will enjoy the food and drinks, listen and dance to contemporary and traditional Portuguese music, bop each other on the head with little plastic mallets for good luck, light fireworks (OK just sparklers to be symbolic), and have a grand time.  To symbolize the tens of thousands who fill the streets for these festivals in Portugal, this event will include auction winners from the UU Congregation of Danbury, The UU Church in Meriden, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Woodbury.

Revs. Tony and Tuesday will serve popular festival foods and drinks:

Caldo Verde (kale and potato soup), Pasteis de Bacalhau (deep fried cod, potato, and onion croquettes), Sardinhas Assadas (grilled sardines),  Bifanas (spicy marinated pork sandwiches),  Bola de Berlim (cream filled donuts), Pastel de Nata (custard tarts),  Ananas em Porto com Hortela Picada (pineapple in port wine with chopped mint), Super Bock (Portuguese beer),  Vinho Verde (Portuguese green wine), and Sumol (Portuguese fruit flavored sodas).

Checks made out to St. Paul’s Church with Popular Saints Festival in the memo line. Contact Rev. Tuesday for raffle ticket information. Tickets will be drawn on Sunday, May 31st. Winner need not be present to win!
