About the Artists on this Program
Tony Nalker
Band Leader, Jazz Pianist
Tony Nalker is a renowned jazz pianist who has performed worldwide. A veteran of over 27 years in U.S. Army bands, including his role as pianist and enlisted leader in the U.S. Army Blues, Tony has shared the stage with government officials and performed on USO tours to Iraq and Afghanistan. He is currently a jazz pianist with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra Pops. Tony is also a composer whose works include a Jazz Mass commissioned by St. Paul’s Nantucket and a musical adaptation of The Scarlet Letter.
Bob McDonald
Baritone, Vocalist
Bob McDonald is a retired Sergeant Major and former Group Leader of the U.S. Army Chorus, with over 26 years of experience performing for dignitaries at the White House and internationally. Known for his rich baritone voice, Bob is a regular performer in D.C.’s musical theatre and cabaret scene. He has sung the National Anthem at major sporting events, including the Super Bowl and World Series. Bob is also a frequent soloist at the Kennedy Center, Wolf Trap, and other prestigious venues.
Larry Ferguson
Drummer and Percussionist
Larry Ferguson is a genre-spanning percussionist with a remarkable career that includes 20 years in The U.S. Army Band "Pershing’s Own," where he served as percussion section leader. Based in Washington, D.C., he’s known for his mastery of classical percussion, hand drumming, and drum set. Larry has performed at The White House, the Kennedy Center, and on USO tours of Iraq and Afghanistan. His performance credits include collaborations with Tom Morello and Pete Seeger.
Andréa Wood
Vocalist, Composer, and Educator
Known for her astonishing vocal range and genre-defying creativity, Andréa Wood has performed at top venues from NYC’s Town Hall to Mumbai’s National Centre for the Performing Arts. A celebrated jazz vocalist and educator, she has shared the stage with Afrobeat bands, hip hop artists, and French gypsy jazz ensembles. Andréa holds degrees from Manhattan School of Music and Columbia University’s Teachers College and teaches in the NYC public school system.
James Cotton
Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet
A versatile reed player with over four decades in the Washington, D.C. music scene, James Cotton has performed with legends such as The Temptations and The O’Jays. A seasoned composer and recording artist, he brings his soulful tone and jazz fluency to every performance.
Ethan O’Reilly
Bass
An active performer in NYC’s jazz and popular music circles, Ethan O’Reilly brings depth and groove to the Jazz Mass. He has performed with Jazz WaHi, Andréa Wood, and the boundary-pushing ensemble Cowboys & Frenchmen, with appearances nationwide.
